What's Possible?
Automation means many things to many people. To some, having all of the
remotes for a surround sound system combined into one is automation. Others
enjoy items like window shades that close and lights that dim based on a
single button push (or even by time of day).

Control processors, when programmed properly, can "talk" to just about
anything in a home, and send feedback to wired (or wireless) touchscreen
panels.

With the correct combination of hardware and programming, you can do things
such as:
- monitor and control lighting in other parts of the house and outside areas
- see which music source is playing in different rooms (and the volume levels)
- monitor security zones for motion / activity
- set up complete "scenes" to activate upon a single button push
- control music sources while in the backyard
- set up timer functions (shut down the house in 30 minutes, etc.)

Here is an example of an e-Control page as
captured from an Internet Explorer browser page.
An interesting concept, isn't it?

Just picture it: it's been a long work day, it's cold and wet outside and you just
can't wait to get home. You finish up a few things on the computer, then open
your browser and type in a web address. A window opens with all of your home
controls on it. Checking the temperature, you adjust it up just a touch, then
turn on the lights, fire up the hot tub and pick some music from your digital
music server. Oh, probably should close the shades, too.

Every adjustment made is confirmed in your browser. When you turn on lights,
you see that they have, in fact, turned on. When you select music, you can
actually see artist, album and song title information and choose from it as if
you were standing in your home. And the hot tub and HVAC systems send
information as to what their status is.

All of this is possible thanks to Crestron's e-Control software. For more
