After working with this client on other projects, Control Media Design was asked to design and install a house-wide audio and video distribution system for a new home just outside of Hartford. The overall system design was one of distributed audio and video, HVAC control, lighting control, computer network, telephone system and remote access.

Audio / Video
The distributed audio system consists of three Crestron CNX-BIPAD8's and three Crestron CNAMPX-16X60 Room Amplifiers for up to 24 audio zones. We also used several of Crestron's CNXRMC and CNXRMCLV Enhanced Room Solution Boxes for flat panel television locations.

The CNXRMCLV packs a ton of functionality, serving as a bidirectional CAT5 video and audio interface, matrix switcher, stereo preamp, and control module. Numerous inputs and outputs are provided to support composite, S-Video, and high-definition component video, stereo audio, and IR and serial device control. The CNXRMCLV can be installed at the display device (television, plasma, etc.) or local AV equipment location, connected to the head end by a single Cresnet cable and up to three CAT5E cables. Crestron's CAT5 video distribution technology permits cable lengths up to 750 feet (500 feet for component video).

Sources include multiple High Definition cable boxes, two Crestron C2N-TXM XM satellite radio tuners, a Crestron C2N-TFM FM radio tuner, a ReQuest Multimedia multi-zone music server and a DVD player. A Crestron PRO2 control processor is the 'brain' of the system and keeps everything running smoothly.

HVAC Control
Crestron CHV-THSTAT heating/cooling and humidity thermostats were used for easy access to climate control from the Crestron touchpanels (or through a computer interface) throughout the home. To keep wall clutter to a minimum, Crestron CHV-RTHS remote temperature and humidity sensors were installed. The 1-1/2 inch diameter face protrudes just 1/8 inch from the wall surface and is easily painted or wallpapered to blend into the wall surface. Use of the sensors allowed us to install the actual thermostats in less conspicuous locations.

Lighting Control
The electrical contractor installed a Lutron lighting system, which we were able to connect to and control through the Crestron PRO2 processor.

Remote Access
With Crestron's e-Control, the client is able to access and control the various systems throughout the home from anywhere with an internet connection.
